Absrtact
The main objective of this project including waste accounting for both the manufacturing and the pharmaceutical industries, revision of waste accounting for past year data, improvement of data quality and establishment of the standard operation procedure for waste accounting.. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of waste accounting, an expert meeting was held on the 22nd of April in the Environmental Protection Administration(EPA) to discuss on the existing method and the areas for improvement, including data quality improvement through statistical methods. The purpose of establishing the standard operation procedure is to ensure clear understanding of the existing methodology, parameters used, source of various statistical data and steps for waste accounting. The report also shows the complete waste accounting result from 2006 to 2010, including trend analysis. The estimated waste productions from both the manufacturing and pharmaceutical industries were 18,055,815 tons and 107,888 tons for year 2009, and 19,634,189 tons and 119,935 tons for year 2010 respectively. The trend analysis shows a gradual increase in total waste production, which coincide with the economic recovery after the 2008 global financial crisis.
